Group Classes


Group Guitar

This course is for beginning guitar students, ages 8+, and functions as a general introduction to the guitar. Students will learn proper left/right hand techniques, rhythm, musical notation, chords, improvisation, and tuning. Literature will be selected from various genres both for the solo guitar as well as the guitar ensemble. Students must provide their own instrument, and recitals are included in tuition. (18 weeks, 50 minutes)

Introduction to Violin

This six week course for students ages 6+, is designed to give a basic introduction to the violin. Students will learn proper left/right hand techniques, anatomy of the violin, how to produce a sound, and simple musical concepts. Those interested in further study will be able to register for private lessons following the six week term. Students must provide their own instrument. (6 weeks, 50 minutes)

Adult Voice Class

Are you an adult of any age who has always wanted to sing? Do you sing now, but wish you had the knowledge and ability to sing better? The Adult Class Voice will focus on all the skills needed to sing your very best. Concepts include sound production, breathing, phrasing, reading musical notation, vocal ensemble skills, and having a great time in the process. Students may take consecutive terms of Adult Class Voice. (18 weeks, 50 minutes)

Group Piano

Classes are organized according to age and/or level. All beginning group piano classes are two year programs, divided into four terms (A B C D). Parents are recommended and encouraged to attend classes with their child. Parental attendance is highly recommended for the Young Musician class. Recitals are held at the end of each term.

Young Musician (ages 3-5)
This fun, fast paced class jumps from one activity to another to adapt to your young child's attention span. Concepts covered include: proper piano technique/posture, note reading, rhythm exercises, theory, singing (with solfege syllables), history, games, listening, movement, and playing with expression. Starting young, children can carry the gift of music with them for a lifetime! The term recital is included in tuition. Parental attendance highly recommended. 30 minutes.

Keyboard Musician (ages 6-9)
The Keyboard Musician class is perfect musical start for your school aged child. Classes move very quickly into reading and comprehending music, based on each child's ability. Concepts covered include: early note reading, singing (with solfege syllables), rhythms, pattern and concept finding, proper piano technique/posture, how to practice, theory, history, listening, games, movement, and playing with expression. The term recital is included in tuition. 50 minutes.

In Fall 2011, the Keyboard Musician Class will now be offered in Midlothian in addition to our Mechanicsville location!

Young at Heart Piano and SENIOR Young at Heart Piano (ages 18+)
Young at Heart Piano is a beginning group piano class for adults. Senior Young at Heart Piano is specially designed for our senior friends. If you have always wanted to learn to play the piano, now is your chance! Core piano playing concepts such as proper piano technique/posture, theory, and playing with expression are learned in a group, social setting, making the process rewarding and enjoyable. The term recital is optional and included in tuition. 50 minutes.
