The Treble Choir is composed of students ages six through twelve (unchanged boy voices only). Rehearsals focus on basic vocal techniques such as tone production, breathing, phrasing, posture, and diction. The repertoire for the Treble Choir is age and level appropriate, and covers a variety of styles. Participants will also learn basic music theory, enjoy various rhythm activities, and incorporate movement with music as appropriate.
The Chorale is composed of students ages thirteen through eighteen (changed boy voices only). The Chorale studies and performs a variety of styles of music. Rehearsals focus on techniques such as blend, balance, vowel formation, breathing, phrasing, intonation, accuracy of pitches and rhythms, posture, and diction. Participants will also learn basic music theory and will learn history and/or background on each piece learned. Students are expected to study assigned music outside of rehearsal.
There will be a minimum of two performances per year: one at Christmas and one in late spring. The dates for our Christmas and Spring concerts for the 2015-2016 season are TBA. The concerts will feature the homeschool band, choir and group guitar class. Concerts are free and open to the public.
CHOIR DIRECTOR – Nancy Schneider
Our Homeschool Choir Director is Nancy Schneider who is currently the Director of Music Ministries at Northside Baptist Church where her responsibilities include but are not limited to directing both the adult and children’s choirs. She has held similar positions at other churches since 1991. She received her B.M.Ed from Radford University, majoring in voice and minoring in piano and organ. She has given private instruction in voice, piano and flute since 1993, and has performed with the Richmond Symphony Chorus for 8 years.

Ward Center Choirs
The Ward Method is a comprehensive music education method that includes proper vocal technique, intonation, rhythm, sight singing, music theory, music history, composition, improvisation, and conducting. This method was founded by Justine Bayard Ward (1879-1975) for the purpose of teaching American children the extensive music literature of the Roman Catholic Church, specifically Gregorian Chant. Performances will be held throughout the year. *Affiliated with the International Centre for Ward Method Studies in Washington, DC.
