Summer Programs and Camps
The Greater Richmond School of Music offers many programs for students to continue their musical studies over the summer break. Private lessons as well as a variety of camps and workshops are offered throughout the summer season. Our Summer 2011 programs include: Rock Camp, Piano Camp, Chamber Music Workshop, The Saint Cecilia Summer Music Festival, and private lessons.
(guitar, piano, bass, drums, and voice)
M-F 10 A.M.-2 P.M. Ages 8+
Three sessions: June 27-July 1, July 25-July 29, August 15-19
Rock your way into summer with our five-day Rock Camp! Students will have four hours of daily instruction by highly qualified instructors. Skills covered include improvisation, ensemble playing, varied styles, practice habit review, music theory, composition, music history, sight-reading, games, and a final cd to take home, made and recorded by the student! Pre-formed ensembles welcomed. Beginners through advanced.
June 12-September 3rd
Lessons YOUR way!
Lesson bundles in minimum of 3, maximum of 12 sessions over the summer 12 week term. Keep your music study strong, while allowing yourself the flexibility of the summer season. Once registered, students will be contacted to schedule lesson times. Prices vary.
July 18-21, Ages 3+
The Saint Cecilia Summer Music Festival is a four-day festival for band, choir, and string orchestra sponsored by the Saint Cecilia Band Program and the Greater Richmond School of Music. Students from 3 years of age through grade 12 in Catholic Schools and Catholic Parishes are invited to participate. The festival will be held July 18-21, 2011 at Benedictine High School and the performance will be held at the Mary Mother of Our Church Benedictine Abbey. Prices vary. Beginners only session: July 18-21*
M-Th 9 A.M.-12 P.M. Ages 6+
Piano Camp is a four-day piano adventure taught by some of the finest faculty in Richmond. Students will have daily ensemble coachings as well as two private lessons throughout the week. Skills covered include ensemble piano skills, solo piano skills, practice habit review, music theory, music history, sight-reading, and a final class performance. Students are placed according to ability and limited spots are available. Students must have taken piano lessons or classes for one school year. The final camp performance will be on Thursday, July 14 or Thursday, August 4th at 11 AM. $275
*The beginners only session will serve as an introduction to playing the piano and will run 2-4 PM.
(Woodwinds, Brass, Strings)
One session: August 8-11
M-Th 9 A.M.-12 P.M. Ages 9+
The Chamber Music Workshop is an exciting four-day training for woodwind, brass, and string players. Students will have daily chamber coachings by one of our highly qualified instructors. Skills covered include ensemble playing, practice habit review, music theory, music history, sight-reading, and a final class performance. Students are placed according to ability and limited spots are available. Already formed ensembles may apply as a group. Students must have their own instruments and have taken lessons for one school year. The final workshop performance will be on Thursday, August 11th at 11 AM. $275
