Registration & Scheduling

GRSM private lessons are scheduled in two main sessions:

  • School Year Semester (August–May): Follows the Hanover County Public Schools calendar. Lessons occur once per week.

  • Summer Session: Flexible scheduling is available.

  • Group classes follow varying schedules. Please refer to the current class schedule in Opus1.

Payment & Billing

Accepted Payment Methods: GRSM accepts valid credit/debit cards (processing fees apply), ACH transfers, and checks. Checks are only accepted for full or half-term payments. We do not accept monthly checks.

Billing Details: Tuition is processed at the beginning of each month. A $25 new-family registration fee is charged with your first payment. Payments that are more than 10 days late will incur a $25 late fee. You will be notified via Opus if your payment fails. If not resolved, the fee will be added to your invoice.

Tuition Calculation: Monthly invoices reflect the number of lessons scheduled that month. Because this varies by calendar, tuition may differ month to month.

Absences & Make-Up Lessons

Student Cancellations: GRSM has a no-cancellation policy. Teachers are not required to offer make-up lessons or classes. Make-ups, if offered, are at the teacher’s discretion and must take place before the end of the school year. Online lessons may be offered in place of in-person makeups. Group classes do not offer make-ups or refunds for missed sessions.

Location Closures: If an external location closes unexpectedly, GRSM may offer a Zoom lesson, reschedule at our main location (9109 Dickey Dr.), or provide a short instructional video. If none of these options work for your family, payment is still required. In extenuating cases, a refund may be issued with administrative approval.

Teacher Cancellations: If a teacher is absent, a substitute will be arranged or a make-up lesson scheduled. If a private lesson is canceled by the teacher and a make-up cannot be arranged, a credit will be issued in Opus and a refund may be issued with administrative approval.

Inclement Weather: For lessons at our Dickey Drive location, teachers determine cancellations independently and are not bound by public school closings. For lessons at other locations, GRSM follows the closure decisions of the host school. Weather-related cancellations follow our standard make-up policy.

Termination of Lessons or Classes

Private Lessons: If you wish to cancel or make changes to your lesson schedule, written notice must be given by the 7th of the month. Tuition will still be charged for that month but will not continue in the following month.

Group Classes and Camps: GRSM encourages all students to complete the full session. Early withdrawal does not exempt families from paying for the entire session. Group class and camp payments are non-refundable once confirmed.

Additional Policies

Instruments: GRSM does not provide instruments, with the exception of pianos and drum sets at our main location. Students must bring their own instruments to each lesson. We are happy to provide rental or purchase recommendations if needed.

Parental Attendance: Parents are not required to attend lessons unless specifically requested by the teacher or school.

Before and After Care: GRSM does not offer before or after care. Students should be dropped off and picked up on time. Students enrolled in school aftercare programs will be returned to those programs following their lessons.

Class Minimums: GRSM reserves the right to cancel any group class that does not meet minimum enrollment requirements.

Student Conduct: Parents are responsible for their child’s behavior at all GRSM locations. Students are expected to respect instruments, instructors, and peers.

Liability Waiver

By agreeing to these terms and conditions:

The Responsible Party (and all students listed on the registration form) agrees to indemnify and hold harmless GRSM from any and all claims, actions, liabilities, demands, losses, damages, or expenses—including attorney’s fees—arising from participation in any GRSM activity, whether on-site or at an external location.
