Concert Band Program

The GRSM Band Program is a *full-year band program that starts the second week of September and culminates with the Spring Concert. There are a minimum of 30 teaching sessions provided during the academic year, consisting of lessons, rehearsals, school performances and concerts. Performing with the band is an achievement in itself, but it is also excellent preparation for students who wish to play in High School Marching and Concert Bands. The yearly cost for GRSM Band is $600. Classes start the week of September 11th with assessments (and instrument recommendations for beginners). All beginners must have instruments for class the week of September 18th.

**Concert Band is contingent on sufficient student enrollment. If there is not enough participation, we will be unable to run the program.

If you are interested in participating, please reach out to us at info@grsm.net

The Beginning Band

A beginning-level group for students who are learning to play a band instrument for the first time. Instruction is focused on developing a solid foundation in note reading, tone production, rhythm, articulation, proper posture/hand position, and instrument care and maintenance. Students also learn basic music theory concepts and ensemble skills, such as balance and blend. Appropriate instruments for the Beginning Band are trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and percussion (multiple instruments), and GRSM can provide information regarding purchase or rental options. Beginning Band members receive a 1 hr group lesson each week. The minimum age to participate is 9 years old. No previous music experience is necessary.

The Concert Band

An advanced-level group comprised of students who have had 2-5 years of experience playing a band instrument or have demonstrated a high level of proficiency on their instrument. Students rehearse and perform high-quality music in many styles and genres. In rehearsals, instruction is focused on balance, blend, intonation, dynamics, articulation, phrasing, and accuracy of pitch and rhythm. Students learn all 12 major scales and music theory concepts. Concert Band members receive a 1 hr group lesson each week. Symphonic Band students have the opportunity to perform at a Flying Squirrels game in the spring.
